I have several (too many) field guides to wildflowers, and most of them are organized by flower color. This inspired a series of color-themed paintings of California wildflowers and pollinators. While the California poppy is fairly common, it turned out to be more challenging than I would have guessed to find truly orange wildflowers. I bent my own rules a bit to include sticky monkey flower and canyon live-forever, whose flowers are really more golden than orange. For my pollinator, I included a pale swallowtail sipping from the flowers of a leopard lily.
